The maganetizm of "Stella"

The DPizM logic of Older Women & Younger Men...

Stella_1

"Stella:" as in Older Black Woman--much older! The slang was derived from the movie "How Stella got her groove back." Where Stella went to Jamaica and got her groove on with a much younger dude. You know the rest...

Anyhew, I cain't front. I'm 34 and There is something about a fine ass older Black woman that's old enuff to be my mother that tends to pimp my imagination....  For as long as I can remember, I seem to be intrigued by their grace, maturity and gravity. The clarity of the "Verge" seems to have finally narrowed down the DPizM of the "Stella" magnetism for me...

To put it simply, "Stellas" inspire me.  I like to think that when I'm pimpin at 50, 60 and beyond, I hope my old lady is still doing it with a suaveness you can only inherit with time, wisdom and living good--sour cream free like.  Like I said, fine ass older women inspire me to live live long and good. In the same breath, I like to forecast an image of myself that can provide security for a Black woman to gracefully inhabit this planet in my presence...

On the Verge of Mother's Day

Pottedflws_1

Word to "THE VERGE!" This one goes out to the Mama, the Baby's Mamas and The Mama's Mama, Moms and so fourth...

As we approach Mother's Day I want to give a shout out to all the beautiful Black Mothers and Mothers in general.  Without y'all, there'd be no Black people period to help snowball and multiply this thing we call "Black Love."

So I did my part to acknowledge my Moms, my son's Mother and I'm giving a shout out to my Grandma' who looking down on "The Verge" from up high...

This year, I did things differently, I didn't wait until the last minute to get my gifts... I actually took my time to look through a healthy selection of cards early in the week.  I got some good ones too.  Usually, I like them blank because I'm the type that rather writes my own words...  But you can always add a note with your own words... But let me give you some real game.  Peep:

  1. Cut Flowers vs. Potted Flowers: I know cut flowers are the traditional gift, but skip that.  I'm saying if you get a handful of flowers, they ain't gonna do nathan but whittle and die slowly.  That's not what you want to represent your love with. So buy her a live plant or potted flowers.  Let that reflect the her life and the constant growth of your appreciation.

And let's say you and your child's mama don't get along too well... Just make the child the ambassador.  Send him/her with the gift, card, money etc..  This not only gets you off the hook but it teaches the child to honor that day as well (that's DPizM in action there).

In sum, I want all mothers to soak it all in and know that "dpm" aka "The Blackest Black Man Ever" loves you.

May "The Verge" be with you...

Flowers for Octavia E. Butler

Octavia_butler_copy_1 Octavia E. Butler: A Job Well Done

My first experience of Octavia Butler came via her novel, "Kindred." It was the first book I ever bought twice just to have a pristine copy in my library.

In brief, "Kindred" was about an Black woman's ongoing backward time travels, in which she would repeatedly return to protect the life of her White Slave Owner Ancestor in order for secure her own future existence.  Photo_022606_005_1

The concept of "Kindred" forever opened me up to the unique path of my present day African-American lineage...

Thanks to her book I was able to appreciate the historic culmination of races that have resulted into my self-defined American identify that I respectfully refer to as: Black.

Overall her prolific pioneering career as an African-American Science Fiction Writer is monumental in the mention of both Black and Women History.

From the Verge:  Rest in Peace.

My Mama is Black History

My Black History

Blackwoman_copy_3

I wanna give a special shout out to my mama who has a restricted home telephone number and doesn't use the Internet much (but she does, and she does have an email).  I would call her a Crazy Beautiful Black Woman but she never left us at home while she was out clubbing,  and never smoked mentholated cigarettes. Plus it wouldn't do her justice considering she is an upper-level professional with a Master's Degree--based on results, she knows what she's doing...

Although I don't know her to ever cook asparagus, she is my only only successful convert from milk to rice milk and she happily makes my macaroni and cheese with soy cheese (thanks). And Although my dad was an invisible, absent, alcoholic-loser, she never hated on him and she named me after him with GOOD intentions.

Yes, she made pull my pants up in high school but now she tells me my pants don't sag enuff. (?)...
I want to use this space on my blog to acknowledge the wonderful job she has done as a single mom to raise me and my twin brother, and Grandma'  aka "Nona" to my son and nephew.
Thanks for slapping the shit out of me when I tried to start sucking my thumb in Kindergarten (I understand now) and stressing the importance of being on time.
And thanks for making an exception to let me take my girlfriend to my room that time.  It really meant a lot to me and I have vivid memories of that whole day.  And by the way, I didn't "hit it" then and there (she wouldn't let me).
As a 30-something parent of a 9-year-old, I get it: Choices.

Meaning there is nothing in this world I "should" do, but I can do all the things I want. Thanks. To say the least, you've influenced me.

*I do have one confession: Remember when you took away those Too Short tapes that  me, my brother and our cousin bought from Too Short on the back of the bus?  Well we dubbed them and listened to them when you went to sleep.

Flowers for Coretta

Cking_1

I gotta give it up.  Coretta Scott King was one of those faces that I grew up associating Black progression and Human rights with.  Her presence will be missed R.I.P.

Toccara: America's Next Top Super Model Over Looked?

It's been a while since Toccara got booted off Tyra Banks' Realty Show, "America's Next Top Model"Toccara where young girls compete to win a super model contract to blast off their careers as models...blah, blah, blah...

Now, I can't say that I watch this show too much, but I did catch Toccara on during the  3rd season, and ever since then, I've been sprung.  To say the least, Toccara is beautiful and she naturally embodies what makes a Sista physically unique as a Black Woman...

Rosa Parks: R.I.P.

RosaparksSince Kindergarten, Rosa Parks has always been bookmarked as a positive woman in my mind.  Her passing away represents a remarkable life spent.  Although I never met her, I'm am truly grateful for sharing the planet with her.  Furthermore, I am thankful for the movement that she helped sparked.  The image of her character has been an outstanding one and I can only wish, hope and pray to encounter a woman with half the virtue that she possessed.  With pure love and sincerity I want Rosa Parks to rest in peace and know that her life was one truly cherished.
Rosa, I thank you.

Lil' Kim "A Down Ass Black Woman!"

Lil_kim1_1While Lil' Kim's "The Naked Truth" album drops in stores today, she is not out and about doing promotions for it because she is presently serving a 366 day term in jail for perjury towards a Grand Jury. Basically, she lied--or had her boys back--about a shoot out between her entourage and her rival  Roca Fella Recording Artist, Foxy Brown and her entourage .  Lil' Kim claimed she didn't see anything, but video said otherwise...

Her original sentence was to be endured at a prison camp, but that was later changed to a Philly federal prison much like the one the Original Gangster, Martha Stewart did her time in...

In this time of challenge for Lil' Kim I just want to give her props for having a brothas back.  Yeah, she caught the heat for lying in court, but her intentions were supportive of a Brotha.  I can dig that.  Plus, from my experience, court is the worst place for a Brotha to be standing or sitting in.  It's just not a cool feeling and the average Brotha like myself will take all the help I can get--thanks Kim!

Say what you want about Lil' Kim, but she definitely embodies a character trait that Brothas could use more of.

In return I'm going to do my part and buy her CD--not the bootleg--which is supposed to be the hottest full length Hip Hop project released by a female to date!  I don't know how true that statement is, but based on what I've heard from the CD and know of Lil' Kims lyrical skills, I wouldn't be surprised if she shines above and beyond this chapter in her life.

Lil' Kim, you go!
